ABOUT THE INITIATIVE
A European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) is a unique tool of participatory democracy that allows EU citizens to directly influence European legislation. When one million citizens from at least 7 member states (granted a minimum threshold per member state) sign an initiative, the European Commission is legally obliged to examine the proposal and respond to it. WHAT YOU CAN DO NOW
Our initiative is live on the European Commission’s official platform. Signatures are collected and verified by the Commission, not by us. Printing, travel and outreach across seven countries costs money, so a donation goes a long way too.

OUR THREE DEMANDS:
Our initiative rests on three concrete demands that would transform the cross-border travel industry across Europe.
- Improve, harmonize and enhance cross-border rail infrastructure.
- Unified ticketing and booking system, no more differences across railway organizations, cyclists included.
- Expand night train routes and high-speed rail lines.
PROPOSED MEASURES:
- Introduction of an EU-wide aviation fuel tax (kerosene excise duty)
- Removal of VAT exemptions and the introduction of fair pricing
- Allocation of revenues to a strong European rail organization with far-reaching authority
